Chelsy was born August 22, 1994 in Albany Minnesota to her proud and loving mother Julie.

Chelsy has two half brothers Jeffery and Jimmy. Jimmy is a senior in high school and Jeffery is married with four kids. Chelsy became an aunt at the early age of 7.

Chelsy has a passion of helping others. Her first real experience at helping others came shorty after the 911 attacks. After watching the coverage of 911 on TV. The Red Cross was asking for donations to help the victims and their family's. (At the time Chelsy's mother was co leader of the Girl Scout Troop.) The Girl Scout Troop along with Chelsy's mothers co-workers held a fund raiser. A rummage/ bake sale. Parents, co workers and people from the community donated items for the sale. We raised over a thousand dollars for the red cross. Chelsy presented the local Red Cross Chapter out of St Cloud with a check for over one thousand dollars.

In December of the same year. Chelsy and her mom were cleaning out the pantry. They put some items in a bag to donate to the local food shelf. Then with the help of the Girl Scout Troop and her mother's co workers. A food drive was put in place. A tree was put up at the office in which Julie worked. ( Chelsy's mom) Employees who chose to participate in the food drive placed the items under the tree.

The food drive went on for two weeks. Julie planned a party at work with the employees in which the Girl Scouts came and brought in items for the food shelf. A Jaycee member who's daughter was in Girl Scouts took the food to the food shelf. They were able to fill up the back of a truck.

Chelsy has also participated in the Toys For Tots, toy drive for Christmas. She has done this by purchasing toys. On occasions she has taken a tag off the Holiday tree at the Mall and purchased items for a family for the Holidays.

In 2005, Chelsy and Julie coordinated the Community Thanksgiving Dinner in Sauk Centre. With the help of friends the dinner was a huge success with rave reviews. Chelsy helped set the tables with table clothes, candles, napkins, place mats, coffee cups and beverage glasses. For an added touch each guest had a special treat waiting at their table to take home. Chelsy also helped pass out the plates as they were filled, poured coffee, milk, water and brought around one of the desert carts. It was a fun day, with live piano music, appetizers, door prizes and a great Thanksgiving meal. Roberta Olson came to take pictures and do an interview for the Melrose Beacon.

Chelsy spends part of her Christmas vacation and a week or two during the summer in Clear Lake South Dakota. Her Grandma Karen is a Dietary Manager of the nursing home. This is a very special time for Chelsy. She puts on a hat and apron and helps serve the food to the residence. She has made some dear friends with a few of the residence. At times they invite her to join them for lunch. So off comes the hat and apron.

Between meals Chelsy keeps herself busy throughout the day. She enjoys helping out in activities and playing Bingo with the residence. One of her favorite times is when they have a band come in and play music. Then those who wish to can dance. Chelsy enjoys dancing to the old time music. She has taking a liking to Mabel. Mabel lets her fix her hair and put make up on her. Mabel never minded going to the dining room with lots of blue eye shadow, red cheeks ,red lipsticks, her nails painted and ribbons in her hair.

Chelsy has a tea party in her honor at least once when she visits. Grandma goes to the bakery and picks out special cookies. The tea parties are always a success, and everyone has a good time. Chelsy also has a friend who is a retired school teacher. Who lives at the nursing home. They keep in touch through letters and small treats. Chelsy found an old book at a book sale that was published the year her friend started teaching.

Chelsy typed a short letter inscription and pasted it inside the book. Then Grandma delivered it for her. Chelsy struggles with having to leave to come home. These people are so special to her and mean so much to her. When Chelsy returns home, it she is sad for a couple of days and will often cry because she misses the residence. It is really hard on her when she goes back and finds out someone has passed away.

Chelsy has been known to on more then one occasion, to go hang out in a residence room. When it is close for Grandma to be done working. She will ignore the pages for her over the intercom because she is not ready to go home for the day. This way she knows Grandma Karen will have to check every room. and find her. This buys her more time with her new found friends.

Chelsy use to go to the Nursing home on Wednesday nights in Sauk Centre and help out with Bingo. This lady who watched her when her mom worked late, would take her. Wednesday was Bingo night. Chelsy's mother thought this would be a wonderful idea. Since her recovery from the Lung Surgery was not going to be easy an happen over night. When Julie returned home. She emailed the women and asked about adopting a Soldier. She was given the address of one Military personal serving in Iraq. Chelsy new there were many others on the list, so she insisted that her mom email the lady and ask for another name. So now they had a Physicians Assistant in Afghanistan and a Marine in Iraq.

Chelsy new there were many more who would appreciate mail and care packages. So she asked her fifth grade class at Holy Family School if they would like to help out. She then asked family members to also contribute. Others in the Community were also willing to help out.

This is how Chelsy's Heroes was started in June of 2006 by an 11 year old girl . She sent off many care packages and letters to the Charlie Company out of Sauk Centre. When she was out doing fund raising, her list of people seemed to grow and grow. There were always people wanting to add someone to her list, so their friend or loved one could receive mail and a care package.

Chelsy had the help of her dear friend Tosha.

A producer from the Jason Davis show called Julie. The producer Jason had heard about Chelsy's Heroes. He was producing a story on Incredible kids, and he wanted to produce a story on Chelsy's Heroes. Jason came to town and spent the afternoon with Chelsy. Jason and his camera guy took plenty of footage to put together the story. The next stop was to visit Mike Mills and his wife. They were part of the story. The show aired in November of 2006 and a repeat in July of 2007.

The First Lady of Minnesota came across the work Chelsy has been doing for the Military and their families. Each year the first lady hosts a dinner for Notable Women at the Governors home near the State Capital.. Chelsy attended the dinner in St Paul in October of 2007. This was a great honor. The First Lady opened the evening telling the other guest about Chelsy and all she has done for the Military overseas and their families. It was a great honor for Chelsy to have the First Lady and her Assistant set at her table.

Chelsy has touched the lives of so many people back home and overseas with her work sending care packages and helping families back home. When most kids her age would rather sleep in on a Saturday. She is up and ready early to make sure more care packages are sent. Since she started Chelsy's heroes. Over 600 care packages have been sent. 600 is when she stopped counting. Many families back home have received support from Chelsy's Heroes. She has helped families out financially, have sent food baskets and baby gift baskets for the new arrival of baby. All of her fund raising is geared towards the Military and their families. She offers support to anyone in the Military and their families from the United States. Her favorite time to send care packages overseas is during a Holiday.

Chelsy's Heroes has endured criticism and many rumors, that almost caused Chelsy to give up on her dream of continuing to help our Military and their families. She learned the hard way, that people can be very cruel and hurtful. She never imagined that people could be so mean and not be thankful for what she is doing. She was ready to throw in the towel and walk away. Then she received a letter in the mail from a Soldier thanking her for the care package and all the work she has done. She has since learned to ignore the criticism and the rumors. Deep down in her heart she knows she is doing something wonderful. She has learned those that criticize are the ones who are jealous. Jealous because someone is doing something so great.

( Here is what one lady had to say about Chelsy in an email)

“ I first saw your story air on KSAX. I was so impressed with you, and the fact that you gave up most of your summer. You did this so you could support our Military serving overseas.”

“Jason Davis, did a splendid job producing the segment for his show incredible kids.”

“ I saw you on TV in your Army clothes and army hat. You were so enthusiastic about your work and what you were doing.” Your story truly touched my heart, and brought tears to my eyes.” “ You were not shy, you knew what had to be done, and you went out there and you accomplished it.” “I truly believe you have accomplished more work with Chelsy's Heroes. Then some volunteer in a life time.”

“It was such an honor to meet you in person.” If more kids your age had half the heart of Gold that you have. What a difference it would make in this world”

“Seeing you in person for me, it was like meeting a Celebrity. I saw you on TV twice, and I told my husband, This is one girl who has a lot to offer and her generosity will take her to many places in her life.”

“Keep smiling and standing strong. Do not let others get you down. It is those people who are jealous.” “ Jealous that a young girl of your age has touched the lives of so many people.” “ It is easier for one to criticize the hard work of a young child, then it is to get up and offer a helping hand.”

“In my eyes, you will always be a hero.”
